Canadian Poet Doyali Islam visits Star Academy

Canadian poet, Doyali Islam, visited Star Academy last week and shared her passion with our staff and students.  We were excited to play poetry games, create our own poetry, and hear Doyali read some of her work.  Together we began a ‘poetry chain’ which will be displayed at our upcoming Art Crawl in May.  Doyali’s next poetry collection, heft,  is being released soon and we are so pleased to have been able to learn from her, with thanks to ‘Poetry In Voice‘.  More on Doyali Islam and her work can be found on her new website.  Children learn so much through guest speakers and special events and Star students were engaged and inspired by her work.

Doyal plays a version of ‘Broken Telephone’ to translate a poem into their own words.
